Affiliate disclosure
This site earns a commission on bookings made through its links. If you book a tour or a day trip through a link or a booking module here, GetYourGuide pays chateauroyaldamboise.com a percentage. You pay exactly the same as you would booking directly. That is the whole arrangement.
What is and is not an affiliate link
Every link to GetYourGuide on this site carries a partner identifier, and so does every booking module. Links to the château’s own site, to the Clos Lucé, to transport operators or to anything else earn nothing and are there because they are useful.
The most important thing to know is what is not monetised, because at Amboise it is most of the visit. There is no online entrance ticket for the Château Royal d’Amboise. You buy it at the château’s own desk and this site earns nothing from it. The château’s own guided visits are included in that ticket, free, and I recommend them on a page of their own in preference to the paid guiding I do earn from. So does the tablet, on the HistoPad page.
What the commission does not buy
- No operator sees a page before it is published
- No page has been paid for, commissioned or edited by anyone selling anything
- Ratings and review counts are the published figures, noted at my last reading
- The reviews on the reviews pages say when a product is thin, or when the free alternative is better
- Nothing is ranked by commission rate, which I do not look at
Why I use affiliate links at all
Because the alternatives are worse. Advertising would fill the pages with things I have not chosen; a paywall on a visitor guide is absurd; and sponsorship would mean somebody with an interest in what I write. A commission on a booking you were going to make anyway, from a company I do not otherwise deal with, is the least compromising way I have found to keep the site up.
Bookings, payments and problems
I am not a seller and I hold nothing. Your contract is with GetYourGuide and the operator, your confirmation comes from them, and cancellations, changes and refunds go through them. If something goes wrong with a booking, their support is the only place that can fix it — but do tell me as well, on the contact page, because it belongs in the review.
